Melbourne is referred to as the cultural capital of Australia, as it hosts many film festivals, art galleries, bands, symphonies, opera, live music, food and wine festivals etc. Also, Melbourne is known for its racing carnivals, jazz and comedy festivals, film festivals, recitals, expositions Grand Slam events etc. There is some event or festival happening through the year and many.

The Australian International Airshow held at the Avalon Airport, near Geelong held over six days during March is a stunning, thrilling show. It is believed that the Airshow is one of the biggest in the Southern hemisphere. The displays are so magnificent that there is plenty of action happening both on ground and the air, literally transporting visitors to the pilot's seat.

•    The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival held in March is one the biggest fêtes in Melbourne. This festival showcases the lively food and wine industry. As part of the festival, there are about 300 food and wine events held across Victoria in eateries, city centres etc. Global cuisines and wines from all parts of the world are showcased.  

•    Australian Grand Prix is held every year in March at the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit. At least over 300,000 spectators witness the four day events like motor racing, motor shows, and air displays. It is definitely a thrilling edge-of-the-seat experience.

•    Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show is an exhibition of more than 10,000 flowers and over 300 exhibitors are held in April at the Carlton gardens. Tourists can witness a riot of colours and it is one of the biggest yearly flower expositions in the country. 

•    The famous Melbourne International Comedy Festival held for over a month during March-April is a laugh riot. This is one of Australia's greatest comedy jaunts. There are performances both by local talent as well as internationally acclaimed artists. The programmes are designed in such a way that there is something for everyone.

•    Melbourne International Arts Festival happens every October where local and international artists and galleries converge. This has been the only festival that is borne out of an international influence. There is a spread of theatre, music, dance, music to treat visitors'.

•    L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival happens in March every year. It is one of the biggest and happening consumer fashion affair in Australia. During this festival, the fashion industry is able to indulge in public interaction, workshops, and sell and endorse their creations. Designers get a platform to exhibit their designs and creations, and helps foster good alliances and partnerships.

•    Melbourne International Film Festival, one of the oldest film festivals is held in the winter every year between July and August. This is one of the best global level film festivals. It has a very good fan following and lot of visitors throng the venues. •    Buddha's Day is celebrated in May every year at Federation square. The festival is celebrated on the occasion of the birth of Buddha and it is typified by ceremonies and rituals, vegetarian cooking shows, dances, recitals and music forms from around the world etc. Tourists are treated to something that is so diverse and varied. 

•    The Thai Culture and Food Festival is held in March every year. This festival is conducted by the Thai commune as they rejoice and commemorate their rich and historical culture. There is a burst of Thai celebration in Federation square, Thai dances, arts and crafts, tourism information, music, Thai food, Thai massages etc.

Apart from the mentioned, there are many other events that happen here making it festive throughout the year. Melbourne has always showcased its diverse global representation in events like the Chinese New year, Greek film festivals, Italian folk music recitals etc.
